Wren

Wren is the name of small, brownish songbirds with loud and complex songs. It comes from Old English wrenna from Old High German wrendo, wrendilo via Proto-Germanic wrandijô though the source and etymology of the word is unknown. Wren is also an English surname, likely originating as a nickname for someone who resembled the wren in some way such as being quick on their feet and small. Wren could also be an anglicized form of Irish surname Rinn from Ó Rinn meaning “descendant of Rinn”, the latter coming from Irish rinn meaning “point, tip, headland” and also “star”.

Origin: Proto-Germanic, Irish
