Ptolemy is the name of several Egyptian rulers of Ancient Egypt as well as the name of a Greco-Roman mathmatician, astronomer, astrologer, and geographer. In Greek mythology, one of the rulers of Thebes is Ptolemy. The name comes from Greek polemeios meaning “warlike, aggressive” which comes from Ancient Greek pólemos (war, battle) derived from a pre-Greek origin.
