Tariq

Tariq is an Arabic male name which comes from the Arabic verb taraqa meaning “to knock, rap, pound” in reference to a nocturnal visitor, hence its other meaning “night visitor”. The reference comes about to a visitor who came about at night to avoid the scorching heat of day. Tariq may also have originally been used to refer to the Morning Star. It’s also the name of a sura in the Qur’an. Tariq is also an Arabic surname derived from the given name.
