Medora

Medora is a female given name of uncertain etymology. It could have originated as a shortened form of Metrodora, an Ancient Greek name meaning “mother’s gift” or “gift of the mother” from Greek elements meter (mother) and doron (gift); or Menodora, meaning “gift of the moon” or “moon’s gift” from Ancient Greek elements mene (moon) and doron (gift). It’s also possible that Medora could have been inspired by Ancient Greek medo (to protect, rule over).

Origin: Proto-Indo-European
