Kavi is an Indian male name meaning “wise man, sage, poet” and comes from a term for an intelligent man and thinker as well as used as an epithet for several Hindu gods. It derives from Proto-Indo-Iranian *káwiš (seer, poet; institutor of religious rites) via PIE root word *(s)kewh₁- (to perceive; to observe).
