Marisol

Marisol is Spanish female name, a contracted form of María de la Soledad, a title of the Virgin Mary meaning “Mary of Solitude”. It could also be a combination of María (the Spanish form of Hebrew Miriam, a name of unknown meaning though possible meanings ascribed to it are “sea of bitterness”, “rebelliousness” or “obstinacy”, and “wished for child”. It’s also possible that it might be derived from an Ancient Egyptian source either meaning “beloved” from myr, or from mr “love”) and Sol, the Spanish word for sun, though it also resembles Spanish phrase mar y sol meaning “sea and sun”.

Origin: Hebrew, Ancient Egyptian, Proto-Indo-European
