Primrose

Primrose is the name of a flower belonging to the genus Primula. The name is made up of Medieval Latin prima rosa meaning “first rose”, apparently because it was the first flower to start blooming in spring. Primrose is also a Scottish surname originating as a locational name for someone who came from a place called Prenrhos, made up from Welsh elements pren (tree) and rhos (moor, heath), though the spelling was changed to resemble Primrose, I’m not sure why.

Nicknames: Prim, Rose

Origin: Proto-Indo-European
