Mordecai

Mordecai seems to be a variant form of Marduka, a Persian name meaning “servant of Marduk”, Marduk being the name of the Babylonian god of heaven, light, battle, and fertility. The name may be derived from Sumerian amar-Utak meaning “calf of Utu”, Utu being the name of another Sumerian god of the sun, whose name means “sun”. Mordecai is also a surname originating from the given name.

Nicknames: Motel (Yiddish), Motke (Yiddish)
