Keene

Keene comes from an English surname, a variant spelling of Keen which comes from Middle English kene via Old English cēne meaning “keen, fierce, bold”. It could also be an anglicized form of Gaelic O’ Cathain meaning “descendant of Cathan”, Cathan being a diminutive of cath meaning “battle”. Keen is also an English word referring to something that is sharp or piercing, or referring to someone who was very sharp or very perceptive.
