Griselda is an English female name derived from a Germanic origin meaning “gray battle” via Germanic elements gris (gray) and hild (battle).
Nicknames: Zelda, Selda
Origin: Proto-Indo-European

Variants:
- Griselde (German)
- Grisold (German)
- Grizeldisz (Hungarian)
- Grizelda (Hungarian, Czech, Slovak, English)
- Grizel (Scottish)
- Grissel (Medieval English)
- Griseldis (English)
- Grisilde (English)
I guess many people seem to dislike this name, but I actually like it a lot. It’s strong but has something youthful about it to me. The Polish form is Gryzelda, which I also like, though I think wouldn’t be too usable because of the similarity with the verb “gryźć” (to bite) and other related words. I like the nickname Zelda loads.
