Ishan is the name of an avatar of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and transformation and one of the most important deities in the Hindu pantheon. The name comes from Sanskrit meaning “master, lord” derived from root word īś ईश् (own, possession) via a PIE root word. Ishan is also the name of a guardian of the northeast direction, part of eight deities who rule a specific direction.
